Ron Kaskus

Ron Kaskus is a life-long resident of Tunkhannock, a retired teacher, and a freelance photographer. Ron graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in education and then spent his thirty-six year career teaching in California and Pennsylvania. He is a member of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and has received the Wyoming County Environmental Educator of the Year Award.

He has been involved in photography for over thirty-five years and enjoys spending a large part of his time exploring northeastern Pennsylvania, trying to capture that perfect image. This self-taught grandfather of five has a strong desire to constantly improve his photography skills, and most of all, have fun doing it.

Without the support and encouragement from his wife Donna, his second career would not have been possible. It takes a large commitment of time and money to produce the kind of images Ron can be proud off, and Donna has been with him every step of the way. His close friend Pat has also played a large part in his endeavor, offering suggestions and new ideas and giving that extra push when needed.

His body of work includes images from the Alaskan Interior and Inner Passage, the Grand Canyon, the sandy beaches of Mexico, the rain-forests of Central America, islands in the Caribbean, the Florida Keys, and the Panama Canal. Ron has also been tutored by Peter Boonisar, a renowned California based professional photographer and instructor. Claire Williams, the owner of the Mary Go Round Gift Shop in Tunkhannock, gave him his first opportunity to display and sell his work.

Bob Lizza and Doug Wilson also added to his start by graciously offering their professional expertise. Ron’s pictures have been featured through the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance at the Weigh Station in Towanda, The Philip Hone Gallery in Honesdale, Lizza Studios and Seasons Restaurant in Tunkhannock. Future showings will be at the Wyoming County Courthouse Gallery, and in the Gallery at the Nimble Hill Vineyard and Winery Wine Tasting Room, both in Tunkhannock.
